In the wise words of Barbie herself, “You can be anything” — including basing your next Halloween costume around her girly and bright aesthetic! The doll’s fashion pieces have become a hot trend — playfully coined as Barbiecore — in recent months among young adults and celebrities, thanks to the recent surge in popularity of behind the scenes snippets from Greta Gerwig’s upcoming live-action Barbie film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Megan Fox is one of the most recent celebs to join the Barbiecore craze. In June, the actress shared photos on Instagram with her partner Machine Gun Kelly, spotted wearing two different Barbie-inspired outfits: a tight-fitting, millennial pink mini dress, and a two-piece ensemble consisting of a hot pink crop top and a low-rise matching pink skirt.

But how can you incorporate Barbiecore into your ideal Halloween look? Read on for four Barbiecore Halloween costume ideas to get you started on living out your Barbie Dreamhouse fantasies.

Pink is the fashion-forward color to be on the lookout for, and your Barbie-inspired costume just isn’t complete without a shade of pink. Fun fact: Barbie even has her very own pink shade, affectionately known as 'Barbie Pink' Pantone shade, PMS 219. The Barbie dolls, on the other hand, are featured in various shades of pink throughout each collection.

To truly become one with the Barbie trend, experiment with hot pinks, millennial pinks, and bubble-gum pink shades! (Oh, and try painting your nails a Barbie pink to totally seal in the look.)

Though not yet released, Gerwig’s Barbie film provides additional inspiration for Barbiecore costumes, as some images from Barbie’s (Margot Robbie) and Ken’s (Ryan Gosling) wardrobes from the movie’s production have been spotted by paparazzi.

Barbie and Ken are seen skating down Venice Beach in one scene, the pair dressed in matching workout outfits that are reminiscent of the 1980s workout loungewear craze. The patterns on the duo’s workout gear are squiggles with a clash of contrasting bright colors, echoing both decades' fascination with bright neon yellow, pink, and blue colors. Although not exactly as depicted in the film, there are some fairly accurate 1980s Jazzercise costumes that fit the Barbie brand available from various Halloween specialty websites.

Barbie is shown in another scene wearing a hyper-feminine cowgirl outfit. Her outfit consists of a hot pink V-shape top and hot pink bell bottom pants with stars cascading down the hem of the pants and a white cowboy hat to top the outfit! The style represents the peak of the disco era in the 1980s before its eventual disappearance in the 1990s. To get the look, check out online stores like Etsy, where you can help support small businesses! TikTok and Instagram Reels are also great places to start for DIY inspiration and low-cost alternatives to Robbie’s stylish look. If you’re a fan of Barbie’s white thigh-high boots, you can find replicas at stores like DSW, along with her cowboy hat on Amazon!

Kim Kardashian wore her own Barbiecore look in a summer Instagram post, holding a jewel-encrusted bag and wearing a millennial pink two-piece, jacket/legging combo. It’s time to rock your bedazzled accessories to really make your Halloween costume stand out from the crowd! Fun necklaces, earrings, rings, and handbags are absolutely *required* to complete your Barbie look.

Is the entire girly-girl aesthetic not your thing? Why not experiment with horror elements on your favorite fashionista? You can change things up and transform Barbie into a terrifying creature, combining cute and scary themes to create a unique costume! Ideas like Barbie’s melting facial wax or a killing doll all add frightening characteristics to your look.

Add red food dye or fake blood to your outfit or around your body to depict blood splatters, and bring your fake weapon of choice. Drop effects to your make-up, such as running foundation or lipstick dropping from your chin, can even help create the illusion of Barbie’s face melting — whatever captivates your interest the most!
