Home News INDEPENDENCE RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS April 22, 2022 in News Critical violations involve factors that can directly lead to foodborne illness and must be corrected within 72 hours or as otherwise stated. All critical violations must be corrected within 72 hours (or as otherwise stated on the report). All non-critical violations must be corrected by the next regular inspection (or as otherwise stated on the report). Recent city of Independence inspections include: Saints Pub & Patio: 20220 E. Jackson Dr., inspected March 16. • Sink was used for purpose other than hand washing. Hand sink on expo line found with a tea bag in basin. • The following were noted not free of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris: (1) Exterior of reach-in freezer and (2) Flat area around soda nozzles on expo line and in dining room station. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. Mold-like substance found in caulking behind ware washing machine. • 4 employees must obtain a valid food handler card and provide a copy to the restaurant by 3/30/22. Que Tal Pollo Grill and Cantina: 4810 S. Arrowhead Dr., inspected April 4. • Employee found peeling onions without gloves. Bare hand contact with ready-to-e4at foods must be avoided. • Sanitized water not available in kitchen. • Poisonous/toxic materials not stored separately, away from food, equipment. Chemicals found stored on the expo line, on shelf with plates. • Two pans of meat found in cooler that were still hot. Food must be cooled to the proper temperature within allowed time. Food shall be cooled (1) within 2 hours from 135 degrees F to 70 degrees F and (2) within a total of 6 hours from 135 degrees F to 41 degrees F or less. • Hand sink must be accessible to employees at all times. Hand sink in wait station found with multiple items in basin, including a whisk, and a sanitizer bucket. Hand sink on expo line found covered by a bus tub. • Multiple cleaners found in facility being used to clean tables and work surfaces (Lysol, Clorox cleanup). All cleaners/ sanitizers must be food safe and no rinse required. • Stored poisonous/toxic materials not needed for operation and maintenance stored at facility. Only those poisonous or toxic materials that are required for the operation and maintenance of a food establishment, such as for the cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and utensils and the control of insects and rodents shall be allowed in food establishment. • Indoor area surfaces noted not being smooth, durable and easily cleanable. Plywood found being used as a table in the kitchen. This must be painted or otherwise sealed to create a smooth, washable nonabsorbent surface. • Food must be stored in packages, covered containers or wrappings. Beans were found uncovered in back room. • Food handler cards were not on site at the time of inspection. Owner will email a list of employees and their food handler cards by Friday, April 8. Twin Peaks: 19821 E. Jackson Dr., inspected April 6. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. Floor of prep area found with food debris. Corrected April 6. • No tongs found for lemons in wait station. Corrected April 6. • 18 employees must obtain a valid food handler card and give a copy to the restaurant by May 4 or they may be removed from the schedule. Hawaiian Bros: 4020 S. Noland Road, inspected Mar. 30. • Kitchen employee noted working in the food prep area with multiple facial piercings. Employee was told to remove piercings and she just put on a face mask. A ticket will be issued to the manager on duty upon the next offense. The employee will be issued a ticket with this offense. • Edges of cooler doors in drivethru noted not free of dust, food residue or other debris. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. Floor beneath grills found with food debris. • Individual, disposable paper towels noted not at each hand sink. Towel dispenser in drivethru area does not function properly. Replace dispenser. • Ten employees found without a valid food handler card. All employees must obtain a valid food handler card by April 14 or they will be removed from the schedule. Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen: 19700 E. Valley View Pkwy, inspected March 30. • Sanitized water not available at kitchen. Sanitized water must be available at all times in areas where food is prepped and/or cooked. • Time/temperature and date marking requirements not met. Multiple food items in walk-in found undated. • The following were not free of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris: (1) Tables on the cookline, (2) Exterior of the microwave ovens, (3) Tables on expo line, (4) Side of ice machine. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. Floor of dry stock area found with food debris. • Physical facilities not being maintained in good repair. Floor of prep area and cook line found to be deteriorating. • Condiments must be protected from contamination. Tubs of rice and condiments found on lower shelves of cook line without lids. Sink was used for purpose other than hand washing. A rag and spray bottle found hanging on side of bar hand sink and a bottle of soap found in basin.
