Wanna go for a picnic in style? Vespa's got you covered with the new Primavera Pic Nic Special Edition.

Vespa makes some of the "brightest" scooters out there. None of them are high on power but the one aspect that Vespas hit a home run on is drama. Well, after all, it's Italian. Vespa scooters have always been a lifestyle machine, similar to what the Jeep has turned out to be. It single-handedly managed to shift a generation onto these funky-looking scooters back in the 1960s. And if you are aware of it, then the name "Primavera" would ring some bells.

The Vespa Primavera scooters are as iconic as the brand. And staying true to its lifestyle angle, the Vespa has introduced a quirky model based on the Primavera. Called the Pic Nic, these Special Edition models are the epitome of niche offerings. And as the name suggests, the 2023 Vespa Primavera Pic Nic is made for people who crave picnics! And all the tweaks are on the visual front.

This scooter is offered in both the 50cc and 150cc variants in the US and comes with unique touches all around. Adding more uniqueness to the package are picnic-specific accessories like a woven wood carry box that can be fixed to the rear, and a water-repellent picnic blanket that can be neatly rolled and fixed at the front. It is special edition models like these that remind us of what Vespa truly stands for.

Vespa's Primavera nameplate has been around since the late 1960s. And the classic Primavera was the godfather of the iconic design language that we know Vespa for. Upon launch in 1968, the Prima Vera was all the rage. With its fresh looks, more power, and vibrant take on life, it became an instant hit among youngsters.

The original model was also known for its elegance and breezy riding characteristics. It stays lit for 15 years after which, it was replaced with a more modern version that had electronic ignition. This was enough to rekindle the Primavera love. But it eventually faded away over time.

It was only in 2013 that Piaggio Group revived the Vespa Primavera with the same attributes that made the original Prima Vera so loved. The Primavera has always been known for its light-hearted take on life with a jolly character and quirky youthful bit. Well, for 2022, we guess Vespa took it a notch further with the unique limited-edition Primavera.

The 2022 Vespa Primavera Pic Nic is the epitome of niche offerings. Vespa was never completely an automotive company. They were never in it for the profit. It was all about emotions and drama. And so, Vespa is mostly referred to as an Italian luxury lifestyle brand.

This is also why the Primavera Pic Nic Special Edition sounds and looks perfectly normal! This is technically a luxury scooter made specifically for people who live and breathe picnics! No seriously; just look at it. It comes with a picnic basket mounted at the rear, as a top case.

And it is woven out of rattan wood and comes with a removable thermal bag. The scooter is also equipped with a jacquard fabric picnic blanket which can be rolled up and mounted to the front luggage rack. Both these accessories are fixed onto gorgeous-looking chrome-plated racks (yes, it's a Vespa. Everything looks gorgeous!)

The seat is finished in a dual-tone brown upholstery that matches the accessories. The dark brown shade of the seat is also spread on other parts of the Vespa Primavera Pic Nic like the rubber inserts on the footrest. There is a "Vespa Pic Nic" badge on the front compartment case to remind you of the special scooter.

The Vespa Primavera Pic Nic special edition is offered in two forms for the US. One is based on the Primavera 50 and starts with an MSRP of $4,699. And the other, based on the Primavera 150 starts with an MSRP of $5,999. To give you a reference on how special the Pic Nic is, a standard Vespa Primavera 50 is priced at $4,149 and a standard Primavera 150 at $5,499.

There are no changes, whatsoever, on the mechanical front. The 50-based Pic Nic continues to be powered by a 50cc four-stroke single-cylinder that churns out 3.2 hp and 2.2 lb-ft. The 150-based Pic Nic is truer to the Primavera roots with a 155cc four-stroke single that pumps out 12.9 hp and 9.4 lb-ft of torque. The Pic Nic Models are offered in two colorways - Verde (pastel green) Pic Nic and Grigio (gray) Pic Nic.

The Vespa Primavera Pic Nic models are by far, the most extreme as far as niche offerings go. And it makes perfect sense for an automaker like Vespa. This Italian automaker has always strived to be a lifestyle brand that always brings about a dramatic revolution. People who own Vespas always have an emotional connection, no matter how old the scooter is. And that is what makes Vespa more than just an automobile company.
